Guidelines for Participants

Thank you for your interest in a SESK trip. All paddlers are very welcome especially those who haven't been on an SESK Trip before. It is a good chance to gain experience, extend your network of paddling companions and visit new paddling areas.

The trip leader may ask you for details of who you have paddled with before, so that your experience can be confirmed. This is normal good safety practice, don't be offended.

Notes:

  1. Please contact the organiser in advanceto make your intentions known. You should not turn up for a trip without having previously contacted the organiser.
  2. Tour Organisers are volunteers who give up their time to act as a contact point for paddlers who are interested in paddling in a stated area. Organisers are not accepting responsibility for other paddlers or for instructing them as part of the trip. These are NOT guided trips run by qualified instructors.
  3. You are responsible for your own safety, all paddling equipment, suitable camping equipment, food, travel etc. We are recommending that every paddler should carry, as a minimum, a 1st aid kit, food & drink and spare dry clothes. Flares, towlines and the more technical equipment will be by personal choice and experience. We are not going to check this equipment before a trip or ban anyone who does not have it, but rely on the good sense of those in the group.
  4. It is your responsibility to find out about the trip route, distance and pace from the organiser and to monitor the weather forecast just prior to the trip. It is your own responsibility to decide if you have the skills to join a trip with the conditions of the day. You will be thought higher of for being careful than than putting a group at risk.
  5. If the sea and weather conditions are poor you may be asked about your experience in such conditions. It may be that the conditions and your experience are not suitable and on the grounds of safety, you will be advised not to partake in a particular trip.
  6. The organiser may change or cancel the trip depending on weather conditions or personal circumstance.
  7. The groups format regrettably does not currently enable us to accommodate under 18s. Please try an outdoor centre or other suitable body. (There are specific additional statutory requirements in respect of under 18s that the group does not meet).
  8. Trip reports are welcomed and will be published on the Web Site.
  9. If you enjoy the trip and have the right level of experience why not return the favour and organise a trip that we can add to the calendar!

Happy Paddling
