Trip Grading
For the participant, these notes are intended to give some guidance as to what the aims of the trip are and the conditions that might be met. It is then for the participant to decide if that trip will satisfy their expectations and skill levels.
For the trip organiser, the notes are intended as a tool to set out what the intents of the trip are. To give a degree of confidence that participants, are aware of those goals and agree with them.
The classifications are intended as broad guidelines only, as to the aims of, and the conditions that may be expected on any given trip. They are not hard and fast rules, An organiser may or may not choose to use them. The notes on the home page still apply. Weather forecasting and sea kayak trip planning are not an exact science. Conditions can change rapidly or not be as expected, becoming more demanding than anticipated. Any trip may have its grade revised or be cancelled at short notice as weather conditions become more certain.
